My friends still roast me for loving Battlefield Earth and I finally figured out why I do
Last Friday at a game night in my buddy's garage in Reno, I defended Battlefield Earth for 20 minutes while everyone threw popcorn at me. I know the acting is wild and the plot makes zero sense, but the movie has this weird confidence where every scene commits fully, and honestly I respect that more than a boring safe movie. Does anyone else have a hated movie they love because of the pure commitment, or am I just the only one here who will die on this hill?
Hold on, you defended Battlefield Earth for 20 minutes? That is a level of commitment I have never seen in my life. I would have thrown more than popcorn honestly. But the part about every scene committing fully is dead on. That movie never once winks at the camera or acts like it knows its bad, and that is rare. Most bad movies are bad because nobody cared. That one is bad because everybody cared way too much, and somehow that makes it watchable.
