My short story about a lost dog sat untouched for 3 weeks until I read it out loud to my kitchen wall
I started a short story back in January about a guy searching for his missing dog in Bakersfield, and after the first draft I hated every word of it and quit for 3 weeks. Last Tuesday I read the whole thing out loud in my kitchen and realized the problem was on page 2, the dog disappears too early so there is nothing to pull the reader along. I moved that scene to page 6 and suddenly the middle part made sense. Does anyone else figure out their draft is broken only by hearing it out loud?
