Update: I called raised garden beds a waste of money for 3 years, then my back gave out in April
Kept telling my wife that $180 for cedar boards was silly when I could just bend down to the ground like a normal person. After two weekends of weeding on my knees in the Austin heat, my lower back locked up so bad I couldn't stand up straight for 3 days. Anyone else switch to raised beds after swearing them off, and did you go 10 inches or 12?
My neighbor built his out of corrugated metal panels and they get so hot in July that his lettuce bolts by noon. He ended up wrapping the whole thing in shade cloth, which cost more than the wood would have. Cedar at 10 inches has held up fine for my tomatoes, and I can still reach the middle without stepping in the box.
