Found out a $60 bag of pea gravel from the big box store covers half of what a $28 load from the local quarry does
Honestly I felt pretty dumb standing in the aisle at the Home Depot in Aurora last Saturday with two bags of pea gravel in my cart. I was about to drop $60 to top off the path around my fire pit when the guy at the returns desk told me the quarry off Route 34 sells it by the scoop for way less. Ngl I drove out there the next morning and got a full truck bed for $28, and the pile was easily four times bigger than those two plastic bags. Tbh I get the convenience thing, but paying more than double for less rock makes zero sense to me. Has anyone else compared bulk rock prices to the bagged stuff, and is there a reason people still buy the bags besides not owning a truck?
Man, this takes me back to when I helped my buddy mulch his whole front yard with those $5 bags from Lowes and we probably spent $200 before we even finished half of it. His neighbor rolled up with a pickup full from a landscaping place for like 40 bucks and we just stood there feeling like clowns. The bags make sense if you live in an apartment and just need a little for a potted plant, but for anything bigger you're just lighting money on fire.
