Chatted with a PCT thru-hiker at a diner and he wrecked my whole plan
He said my 45L pack is overkill for a 3 day trip and I've been overpacking for years. Has anyone else had a stranger totally change how you pack gear?

What bugged you more, his advice or that he said it while eating a full stack of pancakes?

Honestly what got me more is that he was giving life advice while eating at all. Like who takes life advice from someone who can't even pause their fork for 30 seconds? @the_lee makes a fair point about diner culture but the pancake thing just tells me all I need to know about his self awareness.

... honestly I don't get why everyone's so worked up about the pancake thing. Like yeah it's a little gross but it's not like he was spitting food at you or anything. People eat and talk all the time at diners, that's just how it works. The advice thing is more annoying sure but even then, bad advice is just bad advice, you can roll your eyes and move on. Feels like we're making a bigger deal out of it than it really is. Unless he was like actively choking while giving that advice, I just don't see the big scandal here.
