Am I the only one who got burned trusting a ranger's shortcut in the Olympics
A ranger at the Staircase entrance in Olympic National Park swore the Home Sweet Home trail shaved 4 miles off our loop back in July, but it added a 2,000 foot scramble and we hit the truck at dark, so what's your worst 'trust me, it's shorter' trail tip?

Man, my buddy got the same speech at Staircase years back and ended up crawling over roots with a dying headlamp. Said the ranger's "shortcut" was really just where the trail crew went to smoke. We still give him hell for it.
