Wrote off hot glue for cannon plug strain relief until a guy named Sal showed me his 1972 logbook
I always figured hot glue was a hack job for connector backshells, but Sal walked me through 14 years of rework sheets at the hangar in Bakersfield and every single glue joint he logged held to torque. Now I want to know what the rest of you use on those tiny 3-pin plugs when the backshell boot is long gone.
What did Sal's logbook say about humidity? I only ask because I've seen hot glue go gummy in coastal shops and hold fine in dry desert air like Bakersfield. Same glue, same plug, totally different outcome depending on where the plane sat. A guy I worked with swore by it until his bird spent a summer in Corpus and every joint turned to taffy. So maybe the trick isn't the glue itself but knowing your climate before you trust it.
