My lead tech told me my soldering was trash and he was right
After 2 years on the job I thought my soldering was pretty good. Then my lead tech looked at a board I did on a 737 nav unit and pointed out 3 cold joints I didn't even see. He showed me how to use a different tip and hold the iron at a better angle. Now I check every joint with a magnifier before I close anything up. Anyone else get called out on something basic like that?

Yeah the getting defensive part is what used to trip me up. I used to think accepting a correction meant I was bad at my job or something. But this post and that comment made me realize it's the opposite, the people who are actually good at things are the ones who listen and change their methods when someone shows them something better.

Oh man, the cooking thing is so real. I remember being so proud of my "signature" pasta sauce until my aunt casually mentioned I was burning the garlic every single time. Felt like such a dope but now my sauce is actually good haha.

Yeah that's how it goes sometimes. It's funny how we get comfortable with our own little methods and don't realize there's a whole better way right in front of us. I've noticed this pattern in a lot of things actually, not just work stuff. Like with cooking, I used to just throw spices in randomly until someone showed me that timing matters way more than I thought. Same with driving, had a friend point out I was gripping the wheel too tight and it was wearing me out. It's like we all have these blind spots where we think we're doing fine but someone with more experience can spot the problem in two seconds. The trick is not getting defensive about it, just taking the advice and running with it.
