The 40 year old torque wrench I calibrated shocked me

I grabbed a beat up Snap-on from a retired guy's estate sale for $30 and checked it against my digital adapter last Tuesday. It read 74 ft-lbs when set to 80, which honestly made me question all the money I've spent on new tools. Has anyone else found that old gear holds its accuracy better than the cheap new stuff?

Oh man, that is a great find. I did something similar with my dad's old Craftsman beam style torque wrench from the 80s. Checked it against a new digital one and it was dead on at 50, 70, and 90 ft-lbs. The cheap clicker I bought a few years ago was off by like 6 pounds at 80, so I just keep using the old one now.
