I chose to weld a quarter panel instead of replacing it on a 2012 Civic

The insurance adjuster said to cut it out, but the rust was only in one spot near the wheel well. I spent about 4 hours cutting the bad metal, shaping a patch, and welding it in. It came out solid and saved the customer's original paint on the rest of the panel. Anyone else still do repairs like this when everyone seems to just swap whole panels now?

My uncle still fixes rust that way on old farm trucks...

I saw a truck that got fixed with that method and the rust came back in like six months. @william_garcia your uncle might get lucky but it's just covering up the problem. Gotta cut it out and weld new metal or it never really stops.

Man, that reminds me of a guy who fixed his own bumper with zip ties. Looked wild but it held for years. Some old school methods just stick around.
