The AI recruiting tool I laughed at saved my hiring pipeline
Back in March, a vendor pitched me an AI screener for tech hires in Austin and I nearly walked out. I figured it was just another chatbot that would waste time and miss red flags like the last two tools we tried. But after 12 terrible local candidates in a row, I gave it a shot on a senior dev role. It flagged one guy for saying he built a system he clearly didn't, and it caught another who lied about his AWS cert. The kicker was when it shortlisted a candidate I would have skipped based on his resume, and that guy turned out to be our best hire in 2 years. Now I only use it for the first pass, but it's cut my screening time from 6 hours down to 2 per req. Has anyone else had a vendor tool they dismissed that actually pulled its weight? I'm curious what else I might be wrongly sleeping on.

Right up until a candidate told me he was the CTO of a company too small to have one, I thought the tool was a gimmick. Now I just let it do the boring part and keep my eye on the interviews.
