The $7 bread knife I bought beat my $130 chef's knife for tomatoes
I compared slicing a dozen Roma tomatoes for salsa last Tuesday, and the cheap serrated one glided through while the fancy one squished three of them. My wife laughed at me standing there holding both knives like a fool. Anyone else find cheap tools winning in weird specific cases?

Actually, that expensive chef's knife is the better tool if you know how to use it correctly, and most people don't bother to keep theirs sharpened. Serrated blades just hide a dull edge, while a good chef's knife rewards proper care and technique.
