Serious question, my mechanic in Boise talked me out of the repair I came in for
I went to my mechanic in Boise last Tuesday ready to drop $900 on a new water pump because a shop in town swore that was my leak. He put it on the lift, looked for 10 minutes, and showed me a $6 hose clamp that was the real problem. What is the last time someone talked you out of spending money, and did you trust them or get a second look anyway?
Did you ever have a buddy who knows cars save you from getting ripped off? My brother in law is a diesel tech and I called him last year when my truck started making a weird noise. The dealer told me it was the turbo and quoted me over two grand, which about made me sick to my stomach. My brother in law had me send him a video of the sound and said it was just a loose heat shield, took him five minutes to fix it in my driveway with a wrench. I still took it to the dealer after just to be sure, and they confirmed he was right. That guy gets free beer from me for life now.
