I finally learned why my hydrangeas never bloomed right

Had a patch by the south side of my house for 3 years. Barely any flowers. A lady at the garden center in Burlington told me to check the soil pH. Pulled a $15 kit from Lowe's and sure enough it was way too alkaline. Added some sulfur last spring and now I've got 8 big blue blooms. Anyone else had luck changing soil pH for specific plants?

My neighbor had the exact same problem with her rhododendrons. She used aluminum sulfate and it took almost a full season to see a difference. Patience really pays off with soil amendments but it is worth the wait.

That's just how a lot of things work. You try the same thing over and over and get nowhere, then find out you were missing one small detail that changes everything. It's like when people complain their car runs rough and it turns out they just needed a new air filter, not a whole engine rebuild. Most problems come down to figuring out the real root cause instead of guessing at fixes. A little bit of the right knowledge goes a long way.

Is checking soil pH really gonna fix everything or just make people overthink their gardening?
