Appreciation post: the before and after on that dig site near Bath was wild

Went back to the Roman villa site I visited 6 years ago and the new ground-penetrating radar survey showed a whole bathhouse wing that wasn't in the original plan, so has anyone else seen older digs get totally reinterpreted after modern tech gets pulled in?

Radar totally changed a site near me a few years back, they found a whole courtyard nobody ever guessed was there. The old maps were all based on what you could see from the surface, so they just assumed the place ended where the walls poked up. Best thing is to go back and compare the old site notes with the new scans, you'll spot where they made their guesses. Also, check if the original team kept any soil samples, those get re-tested all the time with better methods and can flip the story. It's like getting a second chance to figure out what you missed the first time around.
