Vent: My last cut on a pine almost took out a power line

Guessed wrong on the lean and it swung hard. Always account for wind, even if it seems calm.

Saw a video where a guy always plans his escape route before the first cut. Said it saved him more than once when a tree kicked back weird. Might be worth adding to the checklist.

Yeah, that's a solid tip. I got complacent once, had my path all set, and a root I didn't see tripped me up on the retreat. Scraped up my leg pretty good. Now I clear my exit path with my eyes and my boots before I even fire up the saw.

What if the escape route itself gets blocked? Like you pick your path clear to the left, but a dead limb shakes loose and lands right where you were gonna run. Or your own gear gets knocked into the lane. That initial plan is key, but you gotta keep scanning the whole zone even after you start cutting, because your exit can close up fast.
