Bought the $280 Silky pole saw thinking I got played, then a job in Tacoma changed my tune
I always said pruners and a ladder were enough for anything under 20 feet. Then I spent $280 on a Silky Hayauchi pole saw for a big deadwood job in Tacoma and almost returned it the same day. Two hours in, I was reaching limbs that would have taken me three trips up and down the ladder, and my ground guy said it was the fastest crown clean he'd seen all season. Now I want to know what other gear I've been writing off too fast, what's the one tool you slept on that turned out worth every penny?
A Hayauchi is 21 feet, not under 20, so you were already past the limit you set for yourself before the saw even showed up. That extra reach is the whole point of a pole saw, it keeps your feet on the ground while your hands go where the ladder can't. The other one people sleep on is a good flip line, it does more for your speed up a tree than any handsaw ever will.
