Vent: digital gauges are fine, but my old analog manifold still catches slow leaks better
I bought a $400 digital set two winters back and it is great for charging, but on a slow R-410A leak the numbers jump around too much to trust. My beat up analog manifold with the glycerin filled gauge held a steady reading on a job in Dayton last month and that is how I found a pinhole in the line set, so I still grab it first on any leak call. Does anyone else keep both, or have you gone all digital?
Got a question about that glycerin gauge, does the needle still hold steady when ambient temp is swinging hard on a roof? Been fighting my digital set on a slow leak all week and it keeps drifting a few psi every time the sun hits it, which makes it useless for watching a pinhole. Curious if the fluid dampening actually cuts through that or if you are just reading it faster before it moves.
