Two choices on a Tuesday: $180 control board or just clean the darn filter
Got called out to a condo in Mesa last Tuesday for a fridge running warm, and after 20 minutes of testing I had it down to either a bad control board or a clogged condenser coil packed with 4 years of dog hair and dust. I almost ordered the $180 board on the spot since the front panel codes pointed that way, but I pulled the coil cover first and found the mess, so I vacuumed it out and the temps dropped back to normal in about an hour. Ever had a machine fake you out that hard, or do you just swap the board and hope for the best?
How many times have you seen a board get blamed for a coil that looks like a carpet? Happens more than people want to admit. The code says one thing but the machine is just choking on its own air flow. I always pull the cover and shine a light back there before I touch a meter on the board side. Coil brush and a shop vac have saved me way more money than I can count, and the customer thinks you're a hero for a $180 part you didn't sell. Nine out of ten warm fridge calls in this town are just dirty coils and a door gasket. Swap the board last, not first.
