Rant: That one Tuesday in July where every ice maker I touched fought back
I had three calls in a row near Austin where the ice makers were jammed with mold and broken augers, and by the third one the homeowner just handed me a beer and said 'you look like you need this more than me' - has anyone else had a day where a specific appliance type just decided to ruin you?

That beer was probably the smartest thing that homeowner did all day. Appliance repair turns into a fight club nobody signed up for when the auger's bound up slush and sludge.

Been there with my own ice maker. Took it apart three times, watched four YouTube videos, ended up with a pile of plastic bits and a bruised knuckle. Pro tip: use a hairdryer on the auger housing before you even mess with it. Thaws that slush just enough to break free. Or just do what that guy did. Grab a beer, accept defeat, and call the repair shop tomorrow. Your sanity is worth more than the service call fee.

Ha, you are totally right about that. I used to think a homeowner could just watch a YouTube video and fix anything, but man, ice and gunk in the auger is a whole different beast. Watching that guy just drink his beer and give up actually changed my mind. Sometimes calling a pro or just walking away is the smartest move you can make. That fight club analogy is perfect, I've been there with a stuck garbage disposal.
