Pro tip: stop trusting compressor readings without a temp check
Used to diagnose sealed systems by gauges alone. Lost a full day on a freezer in Portland because pressures looked fine. Then an old timer told me to put my hand on the suction line. Ice cold, but compressor was dead. Now I always run a superheat check first. Saved me three callbacks this month alone. Anyone else ditch gauge-only habits after a costly miss?

Stop treating the gauges like the whole story. They only show you one part of what's happening. The temp check tells you what the system is actually doing, not just what the pressures say it should be doing. I had a similar thing with a rack system where pressures looked perfect for hours, but the oil was cooked and the compressor was on its way out. Now I check superheat and subcooling on every single call, even the easy ones. It takes two extra minutes and saves you from coming back twice. That old timer probably saved you a whole career of headaches with that one tip.
