I finally ditched the digital meter for a $9 analog one
Used to trust those fancy clamp meters for everything, even checking capacitor health on compressors. Three months ago I got a weird reading on a GE fridge that said the start cap was perfect, but the thing kept kicking out. Replaced the cap anyway after scratching my head for an hour, boom it ran fine. That meter had been giving me false numbers on a $450 call I had to eat in Tacoma. Picked up an old analog Simpson at a pawn shop for 9 bucks and now I cross-check everything with it before I leave a job. Anyone else run into digital meters lying to them, or is it just the cheap ones acting up?
