Bought a used thermal fuse tester from a guy in Tacoma that was totally fried

It was a Klein Tools ET40, cost me $85, and the guy swore it worked fine when he sold it off his truck. Got back to the shop, tried it on three known good fuses, and it wouldn't light up at all. Opened it up and the board was clearly burnt. Anyone have a go-to brand for a reliable, basic thermal fuse tester that won't let you down?

Honestly sounds like you just got a bad unit.

Ever have one of those testers that just lies to you? Mine showed a good fuse on a dead circuit last month, cost me an hour chasing ghosts. Now I keep a known-good fuse in my pocket to check the tester itself before I trust it. That little trick saves so much time when you're in a tight spot.

Used to think any brand name tool from a truck was a safe bet, learned that lesson the hard way myself. Now I only buy electrical testers new from a real store with a warranty you can actually use. That burnt board situation is a total headache and makes the whole job take longer. For basic fuse checks I've had good luck with the simple Amprobe units, they just work every time.
