TIL most apology letters fail because people skip the specific action step

I read through maybe 50+ drafts in this sub and noticed a pattern. Almost every letter says "I'm sorry for what I did" but never says "Here is exactly what I will do differently next time." Last month I wrote a draft to my sister about bailing on her birthday party. I rewrote it 3 times to include a specific promise like "I will set a phone reminder 2 weeks before any family event." That tiny change made the whole thing feel real instead of just empty words. I think we all get stuck in the guilt part and forget apologies exist to rebuild trust, not just dump feelings. Has anyone else noticed this makes a difference in how you feel after writing it?

Oh hard disagree. Specific promises just sound like you're following a script and it makes it feel less genuine to me.
