The 1987 phone bill I found in my dad's desk drawer
I was clearing out my parents' attic in Columbus last month and found an old phone bill from March 1987. Long distance was $64 for like 12 calls, and I remember my dad complaining about that exact bill when I was a kid. It hit me that I never apologized for running up those calls to my girlfriend in Toledo, 45 minutes of chatter every night. Has anyone else unearthed an old receipt that made you want to say sorry to someone from 30 years ago?

And honestly, the real tragedy is that all those calls probably went through a switchboard operator in some small Ohio town who had to listen to two teenagers breathe into the phone for 45 minutes straight. That poor soul deserves an apology more than your dad does, and they're probably dead now so you can't even make it right. At least your dad got a bill he could complain about, that operator got nothing but the knowledge that young love sounds exactly like heavy breathing and mumbling.
