I bought an old Smith Corona at a flea market in Boise for $120 after hearing that writing by hand helps you process hard feelings. Typing out an apology to my old roommate felt too easy, like I was just deleting and retyping until it sounded right instead of actually feeling it. With the typewriter, every mistake stays on the page, so I had to sit with what I actually wanted to say before my fingers moved. I still never sent the letters, but having a stack of them in a drawer feels more honest than a draft folder. Has anyone else tried writing their unsent letters by hand or on a typewriter, or does that sound like too much work?
