My apology to my sister after 10 years is still sitting in my drafts folder
I wrote this letter to my sister back in 2014 when I was working a plumbing job in Spokane and she was going through a divorce I totally ignored. I told her I was too busy with a flooded basement job at 123 Elm Street, but really I just didn't want to deal with her drama. Ten years later and I still haven't hit send because now it feels like too little too late. Has anyone else kept an apology so long it feels like it lost its meaning?

Drafts folder seems like a great place for apologies to die.

Held onto a letter I wrote to my old roommate for almost 8 years. We had this huge blowup over him using my car without asking and I called him every name in the book. Never apologized because I was stubborn and thought I was in the right. Finally handed it to him at a coffee shop a couple years ago, he read it right there, and we just sat in silence for a minute. He didn't say much but we're cool now and I swear I slept better that night than I had in years.

My buddy Mike had a letter to his dad sitting in his glovebox for six years about some dumb fight over a fishing trip. He finally handed it over at a family barbecue and his dad just nodded, folded it up, and stuffed it in his pocket without reading it right there. Mike said he felt way lighter anyway, like the weight was in writing it, not in the getting forgiven part.
