The farmer's market vendor who called out my grocery waste

I used to buy those big multipacks of greens from the chain store, told myself I was being eco conscious. Some vendor at the Portland farmers market saw me tossing a slimy bag into the compost and said, you know that still took energy to grow, pack, and ship, even if it becomes dirt. That hit me. So I switched to buying loose produce in smaller amounts every 3 days instead of weekly hauls. My food waste is down to maybe one onion skin a week now. Has anyone else gotten a blunt comment like that that actually stuck?
