My neighbor called my compost pile 'a rodent hotel' and she was right
She walked over last fall and said, 'Wes, that's not a compost pile, it's a buffet for every rat on the block.' I was just tossing in all my food scraps, including bread and cooked leftovers. I changed my method after that. Now I only use a sealed tumbler bin, and I only put in yard waste and raw fruit and veggie scraps. It took about 3 months, but the rat problem in my yard is totally gone. Has anyone else found a simple switch that cut down on pests or waste?

That's a rough way to learn the lesson, but it works. Switching to a sealed bin was a total game changer for me too. It's crazy how one small change can fix a big problem.

Totally used to think those open bins were fine, honestly. Then I had the same bug problem and it was a nightmare. Now I won't use anything but a sealed lid, it just makes life easier. That one switch saves so much hassle in the long run.

What, you mean bugs aren't part of the free protein plan? Guess I'll go buy a lid now.
