That rewatch of 'Serial Experiments Lain' finally clicked for me

I always thought it was just confusing tech babble, but watching it alone at 2 AM last Tuesday made the loneliness theme hit way harder. Anyone else have a show that only worked on a second try years later?

My friend swears Neon Genesis Evangelion only made sense after his third watch.

I watched it twice and got less sure each time. Your friend might be onto something with a third try. Honestly evan_green52, I see it the other way. The show isn't a puzzle to solve. It's about messy feelings that don't add up clean. Looking for a single right answer might be missing the point. The confusion is part of the experience.

My buddy Dave had a whole theory after his third rewatch. He said the first time he just saw the robots, the second time he got lost in the religious stuff. That third time, he finally stopped looking for clues and just felt how sad everyone was. It clicked for him then, not as a plot but as a mood. Kinda makes me think your friend is on a similar trip.
