My friend swore I'd love Darling in the Franxx and she was dead wrong

My buddy Jenna kept telling me for three months straight that Darling in the Franxx would be my favorite anime ever. She said it had the perfect mix of romance and mecha action (which I usually dig). I finally watched it over a weekend and about 12 episodes in, I texted her asking if the show forgot it was supposed to be about giant robots. Turns out she only watched the first half and had no clue it went completely off the rails. Has anyone else had a friend recommend an anime based on just the first few episodes?

Got a buddy named Mike who swore up and down that Attack on Titan was the best thing ever made. He was so hyped about the first season I watched it in like two days and thought it was awesome. Then he told me to keep going, so I watched season 2 and 3 and honestly it just got more and more confusing with all the political stuff and timeline jumps. I asked him how far he got and he admitted he only watched the first season and had no idea what happened after that. Now I dont trust a single anime rec from him unless he promises he finished the whole thing.

Ugh this is such a classic trap. So many people hype up the first part of a show and then dip when it gets complicated. Gotta respect the full commitment before taking recs seriously.

That Mike situation is exactly why I ask people "did you finish it or just the first season?" before I take their word on anything. I've learned the hard way that some folks will hype up a show based on the first arc and then ghost when the plot actually gets complicated. Now I just check MyAnimeList or something to see if someone's logged the full series before I commit to watching based on their rec. Saved me a lot of time and confusion.
