TIL my fridge's 'eco mode' was making my milk go bad 3 days early
Looked it up after tossing a half gallon of milk that smelled funky. Turns out the algorithm in my smart fridge keeps the temp at 40-42F to save power, but that's right at the danger zone for dairy. Why do app-connected appliances care more about their energy rating than my cereal?

Toss the eco mode and run your fridge at a steady 37-38F. Milk going bad early costs more than the tiny power savings. Smart appliances are just dumb when it comes to actual food storage.

Dude @matthewdixon you're 100% right, eco mode just lets stuff warm up too much. I had the same issue with yogurt going bad way before the date and it was driving me nuts till I turned that junk off.

Yeah, that eco mode is a total ripoff. I get wanting to save a few bucks on your electric bill but not at the cost of your food spoiling. I had a similar thing happen with my fridge last summer, kept getting sour cream that looked fine but tasted off. Finally checked the temp and it was sitting at 41F, right where you described. These companies need to stop prioritizing their Energy Star sticker over us actually eating what we buy. Just set it to 37F and forget about it, your milk will thank you.
