Vent: A job in a new build last week turned into a nightmare because of one hidden wire.

It was a whole house install in a new subdivision. Everything was going smooth until I went to put in the last motion sensor. The builder's crew had run a low voltage wire for something else right through the exact spot I needed to drill for my mounting bracket. I mean, I checked the plans, but this wasn't on them. Spent three hours with a toner and probe trying to figure out where it went before I could safely move it. The homeowner was getting antsy, and it threw my whole schedule off. Has anyone else run into builders adding surprise wires after the low voltage rough-in? How do you even plan for that?

That "builder's rough draft" line is so true. Do you think they just let the framing crew run whatever wire they want without telling anyone? I had a house where they put a thermostat wire for a future humidifier right through a closet where I needed to put an access panel. It's like they work from a totally different set of plans.

Honestly makes you wonder if the electricians and framers even talk. Seen a wire get stapled right over a plumbing vent mark on a stud, like they were racing to finish first.

Ever feel like the blueprints are just a builder's rough draft?
