The zoning map that made me rework my whole design approach

Had a commercial job last month in Austin where the city's fire alarm zoning requirements were WAY stricter than anything I'd seen in residential. A customer service rep at the permit office mentioned it in passing, and it hit me that I'd been laying out zones based on convenience, not actual code compliance. I redid the entire floor plan after that conversation. It added maybe 40 minutes to my estimate, but it saved me a huge rework down the line. Has anyone else had to adjust their zoning habits after a specific local ordinance caught them off guard?
