That YouTube guy's cat6 tip saved my butt on a 3-story retrofit

Some random installer called 'SecuritySam' posted a video saying never trust the old phone wire runs for pulling new cable on multi-floor jobs. I thought it was lazy talk until last Thursday on a bank retrofit in Dayton. We used his trick of running a fish tape from the attic down the interior wall cavity instead of through the existing conduit. Took us 2 hours instead of the 6 we budgeted, and we avoided drilling through a brick pillar that had rebar hidden in it. That video now lives in my bookmarks, but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried his line-voltage separation method or if that's just asking for trouble on a commercial panel?
