My old partner in Tucson told me to stop zip tying wires to the panel, and I finally got why after 12 years
I was on a panel swap in Tucson last week with a helper who kept zip tying the zone wires tight against the can, right where they come in. My old partner used to say the same thing to me back in 2012 and I always brushed it off because it looked so clean. He called it 'tying a knot you will have to cut later' and I did not get it until I was standing there with flush cutters trying to free a bundle without nicking the insulation. Now I leave about 3 inches of slack and just velcro the bundle to the side of the can, takes maybe 2 extra minutes per panel. Service calls go way faster when you can pull a wire out to test it without fighting the whole harness. I am curious if anyone here has a rule of thumb for how much slack to leave on keypad and siren runs versus zone wires.
