Golf course install turned into an unexpected wildlife talk

I was finishing a panel swap on a clubhouse at a course outside Phoenix last month, and this older groundskeeper walks up and just stares at me for a solid minute before saying, "You know, the coyotes figured out how to set off the motion sensors, so I started leaving peanut butter on the keypads." He wasn't joking, he'd been doing it for weeks, and sure enough I found paw prints and sticky smears all over two zones. Has anyone else dealt with animals messing with outdoor detectors, or is this just a desert thing I never got warned about?
