Unpopular opinion: I thought that "torque to spec, not to feel" talk was just hangar legend until an A&P in Fresno made me eat my words
Spent my first few years on the line going by feel on just about everything. You know the type. Wrist says good, walk away. Last month an old A&P out of Fresno hands me his calibrated wrench on a brake job and says pull it till it clicks, not till it feels right. I humored him. Click came way earlier than my hand wanted. He pulls out the manual, points at the number, and says my feel was about 20 percent over. I checked three more fasteners after that and sure enough I was cranking everything tighter than it should be. Now I keep the wrench within arm's reach instead of in the bottom of the box. So what's the one shortcut you swore by that the book quietly proved you wrong on?
