Torque wrench calibration caught me slipping after 2 years

Was doing a routine wheel bearing job on a 737 last week and decided to finally check my torque wrench against the calibration tool in the shop. It was off by 8 foot pounds at 150, which is WAY outside spec. I had been trusting that thing for over 2 years on critical fasteners and had no idea. The weird part is my lead mechanic said most guys never verify until something fails, not before. Anyone else checking their own wrenches on a schedule, or am I the only one paranoid enough now?
