The old lead in Spokane said torque till it clicks, not till it feels tight
I used to run fasteners down with a speed handle and finish by feel, and I thought the click was just a backup. Back in 2011 a lead at Spokane handed me a 90 inch pound wrench and had me redo 14 panel screws I swore were fine, and three of them moved another quarter turn. Turns out my wrist had been guessing on anything under 100 inch pounds for a long time, and nobody caught it because nothing failed. Now I use the wrench on every small fastener even when it feels silly, and the click has saved me from a loose fairing more than once. Did any of you learn this the hard way, or did your shop push click wrenches from day one?
