Hit 500 engine teardowns and finally flipped my opinion on torque specs

I always thought torque specs from the manual were just suggestions, figured my feel was good enough after 15 years of turning wrenches. Then last Tuesday I hit 500 engines torn down and rebuilt at our shop in Phoenix, and I noticed I had 3 come-backs this year, all ones where I skipped the spec and went by feel. Has anyone else had that moment where the numbers finally click and you admit the book knows better?
