My air fryer caught fire trying to make frozen onion rings

I was in my kitchen in Springfield last Tuesday, following the box instructions for 400 degrees and 12 minutes. About 8 minutes in, I saw orange flames inside the basket through the window. I unplugged it right away and let it cool on the stovetop. The onion rings were completely black and the basket has some scorch marks that won't scrub off. Has anyone else had a frozen food item cause a flare-up like this?

Heard frozen fries can do that too?

Yikes, that's one way to get extra-crispy onion rings. Sounds like your fryer decided to skip the cooking and go straight to the charcoal briquette stage. I guess the box left out the step about not creating a small grease fire.

Oh man, don't even get me started! My old air fryer turned a batch of tater tots into little black hockey pucks last month. The smoke alarm went off and my whole apartment smelled like a campfire for two days. I swear those things have a mind of their own sometimes. You just want a snack and suddenly you're in a disaster movie.
