The AI content detector told me to rewrite my resume, that was a mistake

I ran my resume through an AI detector last month because a friend in Dallas swore by it. It flagged my summary as 87% AI written, so I spent 3 days reworking every line to sound more human. I sent it out and got zero callbacks, so I switched back to my original version and landed two interviews this week. The detector was judging patterns, not quality, and my recruiter said my original read more confident. Has anyone else trusted an AI tool for career advice and gotten burned?

Ran my portfolio summary through one of those tools a while back for a job hunt and it flagged all my natural phrasing as robotic. Rewrote it to sound like a generic corporate bot and got nothing but silence. Switched back to my original version, the one with short punchy lines and actual personality, and got three interviews in two weeks. Those detectors just look for repetitive sentence structure and common filler words, they can't tell if something has real voice behind it. My recruiter buddy said the same thing, hiring folks can spot a weirdly smoothed over resume from a mile away. Trust your own gut over a pattern checker, your instinct about what sounds like you is way more reliable.
