Same thing happened with my mom and grocery lists. She used to write them out, now she just asks her phone. But here is the pattern I keep seeing. People stop doing small tasks by hand and then a few years later they cannot do them at all. My cousin cannot read a paper map anymore. My neighbor forgot how to do long division when helping her kid with homework. Writing prompts by hand keeps that muscle working.
