My brother in law said AI art is just 'fancy copying' and I couldn't argue back

We were at his place in Boise last weekend and he pulled up 40 of his own photos next to stuff Midjourney made from his prompts, and honestly some of the outputs looked more like his style than his own edits did. Now I'm stuck on whether that's the tool learning him or him just liking his own taste reflected back. Has anyone else run their own work through a model like that and felt weird about it?
