Vent: dropped $180 on a cheap PTO spreader and it snapped in a week
Bought a no-name 3-point spreader off a marketplace listing near Ames for $180 because the brand name ones run $500 and up. Second day out, the gearbox started grinding, and by day five the shaft sheared clean off mid-pass in a 6 acre rye field. Took it to a local shop and the guy laughed, said the castings on these are pot metal and he sees four or five a season. I'm out the $180 plus $60 in seed I flung into the fence line. Anyone got a used brand name one in decent shape, or should I just rent next time?
