Switched to wider tires on the grain cart and the ruts got worse, not better

Put 650s on my grain cart thinking they'd float better in the soft spots near the creek field, but they just packed the mud down harder and now the ruts hold water for days. Anyone else run into this, or did I just pick the wrong tread pattern?
