The $850 espresso machine I bought out of spite is now my morning ritual

I got it after my ex said I'd never use it, and honestly I just wanted to prove her wrong. Three months in and I've pulled over 200 shots, and my local cafe trips are down to zero. Anyone else buy something expensive just to win an argument and then actually love it?

200 shots in three months means you're averaging over two a day. That's not a spite purchase anymore, that's a lifestyle commitment. My ex said I'd never use my bread maker, so now I've made 47 loaves of sourdough that I don't even like eating just to spite the concept of her. I respect the grind, but I also think you might have accidentally found a healthy coping mechanism.
