Serious question, do you pick the stable job or the big dream?
I had a solid offer at a bank in Denver for 65k a year, but also a chance to join a friend's startup for way less pay. I took the bank job for the security, but now I sit at my desk wondering if I made the wrong call. Has anyone else faced a choice like this and how did it turn out?

What if the bank job is the better long term bet for your dream? You could save up a real safety net there, then jump to your own thing later with way less stress. Henrydixon's cousin might have just been stuck, not safe.

Man that startup could have been the best call you ever made. Banks are safe but they kill your soul slowly. My cousin took the safe route and now he's 40, hates his life, and missed the boat on three different tech booms. That friend's company might fail, but the connections and skills you'd get are worth more than a steady paycheck. You learn more in a year at a chaotic startup than a decade pushing papers in a cubicle.

Yeah that "kill your soul slowly" line from @henrydixon hits hard. He's right about the learning part too, a boring job just makes time disappear.

Remember that guy from high school who took the accounting job at his dad's firm? I saw him last month and he looked so tired, like the light was just gone. He said he doesn't even remember the last five years, just the same spreadsheets over and over. Makes you wonder if the safe paycheck is worth that trade. I mean, time is the one thing you don't get back, right?
