PSA: Replacing my car battery took 4 hours and a neighbor's help, and I still feel dumb
Last Saturday I decided to swap the battery in my 2014 Civic because it kept dying at the grocery store on 5th Street. I watched two videos and figured it was a 20 minute job, so I started at 10am. The hold-down bolt was rusted solid and I stripped it with a 10mm wrench, which meant I had to borrow a hacksaw from my neighbor after trying pliers for 40 minutes. By the time I got the old one out, I realized the new battery was 1 inch too tall and would not fit under the hood. I ended up driving to AutoZone in my neighbor's truck, swapping it, and finishing at 2pm. Does anyone have a trick for loosening rusty bolts without stripping them, or do I just need to buy a torch?
